Arch at Arches

Relaxing in and around Moab with my friends Marie and John. (It has been quite a pleasure showing my dear friends all my favorite spots hereabouts.) I sketched this view of South Window in Arches while they hiked up into it. I thought that I ought to add a vibrant blue sky to it, especially inside the arch. But decided not to. It's my favorite thing that I've sketched so far. Off tomorrow at the crack o' dawn for Sedona and the drawing class.

Jealous, of course, but glad to read that all is going well. The weather in the middle of the country has been pretty rough and I wondered if it had hindered you: apparently not!

Pen and ink? Did you use your water pen to create the shadowing?

I scampered across the USA the weekend of May 2-3-4 and had bad weather for only a few hours one afternoon. I am sorry to hear of all the devastation this week. In Missouri, right? Poor folks!

The weather in northern AZ is just fine. Not too hot yet. Mid-40's at night.

Yep, I often use the water brush to do shadowing, but in this case I used a water brush filled with diluted sepia-colored ink. I layered it where I wanted darker shadows. Worked well!
